Alejandria Ensemble
Alejandria Ensemble reflects over twenty years of creative interpretations and new perspectives on Ancient Music. With a repertoire comprised of Early Music, North African, Arab, Mozarab, Andalusion, Balkan, and Sephardic genres, Alejandria represents a spirited fusion of World Music sounds. Their primary inspiration flows from the contributions the "melting pot" of Andalusian culture made to Western civilization, and to music generally.
Alejandria Ensemble Director, Yvonne Owens, obtained her M.A. from the Centre For Medieval Studies, University of York (UK) in 2003, and has written, performed, and lectured extensively on the legacy of Al-Andalus. She has been compiling an extensive repertoire, in collaboration with local scholars and musicians for over twenty years.
